Struggling to stay Catholic? You're not alone. Faith seeks wonder to flourish. I'll share it when it shows up.

We can only “know” that God exists. Our limited human senses and reason evidence God’s existence through the sensible world and through our interior life. Any fact about God beyond God's mere existence, however, depends on God to reveal.

That, God does through the Divine Logos, the “Word” of God incarnate in the life of Jesus, which we know through the twin witness of Scripture and the teaching Tradition of the Church.

Today that Scripture communicates what reason alone can not about the Logos of God:

Who, being in the form of God…
…emptied himself,
taking the form of a slave,
born in human likeness…

And therefore God highly exalted him…
so that at the name of Jesus
every knee should bend
of beings heavenly, earthly and under the earth…

– Ph 2:6-10 (RNJB)

To what end? Some kind of divine narcissism? No.

To share that exaltation with us, to make us like him, to bring us where he is, where our own nature cannot ascend unaided.

From the dust he lifts up the lowly,
from the ash heap he raises the poor,
to set them in the company of princes…

– Ps 113:7-8 (RNJB)

Raise us, Lord, above our impoverished nature.
