Chronicling the collapse of the United States

Say farewell to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, NPR, and PBS

For now, this is purely speculation, but it really does seem as though Supreme Leader Trump just extorted CBS into firing Stephen Colbert for regularly criticizing him, and this is on top of the $16 million Trump just successfully extorted from CBS. And on top of that, Congress just approved the clawing back of $9 billion in funding for NPR and PBS, two news organizations Supreme Leader views as “too woke” and too critical of him and his regime. NPR and PBS will likely have to shut down, unless they manage to secure funding in other ways. PBS had previously tried to appease the Trump regime by removing a drag-themed episode of a children’s show and a trans-inclusive gaming documentary, but as others have already demonstrated, appeasing the Supreme Leader doesn’t spare you his wrath. Sorry kids, no more Sesame Street. It teaches empathy, compassion, and how to read, and Supreme Leader disapproves of these things. An uneducated populace is easier to manipulate and control, which is why the Supreme Court also just helped Trump violate the constitution in closing the Department of Education. Besides, people in labor camps don't need to read or learn stuff.

Update July 19, 2025: It appears that NPR and PBS more broadly might still survive in some form. However, it’s the survival of their local affiliates that is now more in question due to the funding cuts. And for clarity, the $9 billion dollar cut in funding is for NPR, PBS, and foreign aid, which the link does state in the first paragraph.

Update July 20, 2025: Skydance’s CEO met with FCC Chair and Trump/MAGA loyalist Brendan Carr two days before Stephen Colbert was sacked. CBS’s parent company, Paramount, is in the process of merging with Skydance and will need the Trump Administration’s approval to do so. For context, Brendan Carr wrote the FCC chapter in Project 2025.
