What I’m Doing Now

This now page was last updated on April 4, 2024.

Traveling

I’m traveling to Toronto, Canada and Lisbon, Portugal for work this month. Next month, we’re taking the kids to Los Angeles to visit old friends.

Teaching myself to play piano

The last time I played piano semi-regularly was in high school. I’m working on re-establishing a regular practice routine to prove to myself that I can do hard things. Over the past few weeks, I’ve learned to play A New Home pretty well which feels good.

Prioritizing my mental and physical health

Historically, I have done very little to maintain my mental and physical health. I was gifted with a forgiving metabolism. My theme for this year is Balance so I created some new habits in January to round out my life.

I start every day with thirty minutes of meditation. My goal is to expand my capacity for stable attention, and to get a better perspective on my mind. This practice alone has had a huge impact on my overall mental health.

After meditation, I spend twenty minutes on the rowing machine or the treadmill depending on the day. I had asthma as a kid so exercise was not something I looked forward to. These days, I can’t imagine going without the mental and physical improvements that come with the daily sweat.

Reading

I just finished reading Permutation City and Jennifer Government. Both were great, Permutation City especially. I also recently finished reviewing an early draft of a friend’s memoir. This was a first for me!

I’m currently reading an early release of Death Trip: A Post-Holocaust Psychedelic Memoir by Seth Lorinczi.

Listening

I’m digging the new Darkest Hour album: Perpetual Terminal. I’ve been listening to them since high school and have no plans to stop anytime soon.

I recently discovered Comeback Kid and I am digging their sound. Very punk. Disruption is a good intro track.
