The musings of an aspiring carver of space

(This is a now page; if you have a space, make one and tell me about it.)

Wow, more than two years since my last update; not really in keeping with the spirit of this.

I'm still in Cheltenham. I got my citizenship last year, finally, which was a big milestone; a long time coming, for sure. The kids are seven, and almost-five; we're all watching (well, watching again for the adults) Avatar: The Last Airbender, to give you an idea of how fast they're growing up.

I'm still working with this same software licencing house, as a technical consultant. Just last week I was certified as a HashiCorp Vault Operations Professional, which was a big deal for me: it's a four-hour exam, and really tests both your knowledge and ability to work with the tool on the command line. Plus, I recertified as a Splunk Architect late last year. Not bad for a guy who spent half the previous decade as a carer, eh?

I've been trying to read more books lately; not as any sort of resolution, but more to balance the four 'newspaper' subscriptions I have now. (The Canary isn't a physical newspaper, but The Times, i, and The Guardian all are.) I've read ten books so far this year, which is a significant step-up, for me. My two favourites, so far, would probably be Old Babes in the Wood by Margaret Atwood, and X + Y: A Mathematician's Manifesto For Rethinking Gender by Eugenia Cheng.

I was inspired by Rebecca Toh, who was herself inspired by Derek Sivers.
