If a post with a particular tag doesn't seem to be very closely related to that topic, it's probably not a mistake. Try reading it again with that topic in mind.
| Category | Description |
|---|---|
| AI | Artificial intelligence and its consequences |
| Article | These are proper blog posts, which usually have images and deeper analysis. Most other posts are around 1-3 paragraphs. |
| Belief | How we form and change beliefs, and how those beliefs affect ourselves and others |
| Business | Many posts relate to business in some way (e.g., posts about AI and posts about social media), but I reserve this tag for posts that are centered on the internal or external behavior of businesses. |
| Communication | Like business, many posts relate to communication in some way (e.g., posts about AI and posts social media), but I reserve this tag for posts that are centered on communication and its effects. |
| Favorites | My favorite posts |
| FiveWordMovieReview | Movie reviews in five words, inspired by Eric Shepherd |
| Miscellaneous | Posts which don't really fit any other tag. If I add any tags in the future, I may revisit these posts and update them to use those new tags, where appropriate. |
| Personal development | I have mixed feelings about personal development and self-improvement, and I hear Americans tend to obsess about these topics more than people from other cultures. At the same time, when I have something to say about this topic, something that involves learning, growing, or being better, I'll use this tag. |
| Philosophy | Most things I write are at least a bit philosophical. I try to reserve this tag for posts that are about philosophy more properly. |
| Politics | I don't like to write about specific political views, but I am interested in politics as a subject, as well as how politics is breaking down. Again, if a particular post with this tag doesn't seem to be very closely related to politics, try reading it again with politics in mind. |
| Public notice | Content published for record-keeping purposes, to alert others about something, or to authoritatively document something under my name |
| Quotes | Some of my favorite quotes. |
| Recipes | I rarely post recipes, but when I do, I use this tag. |
| Science | I don't consider myself a scientist, and I don't consider computer science to be science. That said, I do think about science as a process a fair amount. |
| Social media | I often write about social media and how it's deforming society. This is probably the most common tag. |
| Software development | The creation and maintenance of computer software |
| Technology | Technology in general, including but not limited to social media |
| Tech tips | Advice for using technology |
| Usability | Specific design decisions that make technology easier or harder to use |
| User experience | Many posts relate in some way to the experience of using technology, but I reserve this tag for posts about user experience in the more technical sense: specific design decisions that make a product or service more or less pleasant to use. |
| Wellbeing | These posts are about health and wellbeing. There is some overlap with Personal development, but these posts may relate to wellbeing that is achieved through no individual effort (e.g., a new technology that reduces pollution). |
