Radionica #1, 6 – 9. jun, Beograd

Projekat Shared Visions: Building Sustainable and Inclusive Cooperative for Visual Artists in Europe organizuje seriju mesečnih sastanaka tokom kojih ćemo zajednički oblikovati strukturu i prakse buduće zadruge.

Na svakom sledećem sastanku detaljnije ćemo obrađivati pojedine aspekte, kako bismo proširili razumevanje mogućnosti formiranja, delovanja i uticaja zadruge, uz osvešćivanje rizika i potencijalnih neuspeha.

Detaljna agenda i lokacija biće dostavljeni do 2 juna.

Artists’ cooperative under construction: Workshop #1, 06 – 09 June, Belgrade

The project “Shared Visions: Building Sustainable and Inclusive Cooperative for Visual Artists in Europe” is holding a series of monthly meetings, a process in which we will be framing and structuring the cooperative and its practices.

The aim of such a cooperative is to mitigate the economic gaps between the Balkans/Eastern Europe and Western Europe, therefore, the cooperative will be based in Serbia, but its membership will be international.

In this first meeting we will explain the idea and the first draft of the proposed structure and we will discuss its process from the cooperative sources of income both for individual members and for the enterprise as a whole, through its democratic governance, collaborative approaches to engagement between members, pooling resources, creating fonds as joint endowment for means of production, education, and solidary, and more.

In each meeting, we will dive deeper into each aspect to expand our horizon regarding the possibilities of its formation, practice and impact, being aware of the risks and potential failures. As the cooperative is envisioned to be established in 2026, this process will lead us to a cooperative enterprise that is best suited for us and other future members.

In this meeting, we will look in depth at sources of income for cooperative members and the cooperative itself from sales and rent of art, crowdfunding, grant funding and sponsorship, what effort each of these funding methods requires and how we can make it work for us. Then we will examine various ways in which democratic governance will facilitate equitable distribution and build common funds.

After consideration during the workshop, some projects will be selected for possible realisation.

Through shared learning and hands-on collaboration, together with our international partners, this meeting will deepen our collective understanding of what a cooperative model in the arts can be – and how we can shape it together.

Participants include artists, researchers, and cultural practitioners from across Europe. Travel costs for up to 10 participants from Serbia (outside Belgrade) and the Balkan region, as well as accommodation and meals, are covered.

Please register here for participation until May 30th. The workshop is intended for 30 participants (if there are more applications, a selection will be made and participants will be notified), and travel and accommodation costs will be covered for 10 participants from the Balkans.

A detailed agenda and location will be provided to all participants by June 2nd.
