Things occupying my time:
- Reading – my “To Be Read” shelf has gotten out of hand, so I'm trying to get through some reading. I think I read six books in September and started two more which just weren't my thang, but at least two of those six were ones I had started earlier in the year, and just finally got around to finishing. I've got three books going right now, but two of those get one more session to either catch my interest or get added to the donation pile.
- Web stuff – I have 20 years of stuff “to get to later” stored in iCloud, and in order to shut off my iCloud account, I'm trying to get a lot of that dealt with now, but computer / web stuff is a winter thing. And still using an iPhone as a camera almost every day means I really need to figure out a not Apple way of dealing with tens of thousands of photos soon.
- Toys – we've got two kids in the neighborhood who were both born in early December 2025. I made rattles for both of them early on, and I've recently completed a pair of toy cars that they'll get for Christmas this year, which I'm currently writing up in detail (or rather, should be, but instead I'm updating my now page).
Woodworking – I'm building a screen / cover for the kiva-style fireplace in our master bedroom. Because it's curved both left-right and top-bottom, this is taking much longer than I had initially hoped, and other projects keep sneaking in ahead of it as I stop to think about what I'm doing next.- Leaving Apple – Between iOS/macOS 26 and Tim Cook fawning over the Orange Rapist, I've had it with Apple. I've bought an MNT Pocket Reform, and an Asus Chromebook CM14 Flip to replace my MacBook Air M2 (though I'll probably keep that, and have it running OpenBSD once I get 40 years of Apple life transferred from it), a FydeTab Duo to replace my iPad (mostly successful, except for not being able to find an Android mastodon client I like), and I placed a preorder for the Commodore Callback after trying a Furi phone which showed up with a defective antenna, and I decided the Linux phone software is behind the Linux tablet software by too far (if you the Furi, drop me a note). Many people want me to document this, so I'm trying to take notes along the way, but I also want to finish the damned project in 2026 (probably won't happen, but still), so I will fall behind on the documentation along the way.
Note that I've never had a “now” page before, and I'm really not sure if I'll manage to keep it updated, but I've updated it a cuppa-tree times, so there's hope. Guess we'll see...
