One man's adventure in life!

100 Days Offloaded!

I managed to get 89 posts completed within the allotted year but the remaining 11 took me another 8.5 months! Still, the challenge did get me writing again, which was the main thing. During the time period of the challenge I became a father, moved from an apartment to a house, and started a new role at work, all while a global pandemic raged. My posts varied from slices of daily life, to more considered articles, to rediscovering the joy of writing poems (especially haikus!) for the first time in many, many years.

Top five below, ranked according to their number of reads according to Write.as stats – one mentions beer and alcohol (“zymo”), three mention tech (“tux”), and one is a poem.

Some of my favourites to write

Choosing these was surprisingly hard! I've gone for a mix – some were satisfying because they needed a bit of thinking or research to write, others were at the other end of the spectrum, capturing a moment in words, poetry or even a picture. More than half of them were from March 2021, my most productive writing month, suggesting maybe I should post more often!

What next?

Good question! I'll keep on blogging as it's fun. The mix of considered posts and more off-the-cuff journal-style entries or quick haikus is a format I quite like – but I may look to change up one or two things now this challenge has ended. More regular posts might be nice but it's important this hobby doesn't become a chore and so it will naturally ebb and flow with the rhythms and priorities of life. For now I will sign-off with a haiku and a thanks to Kev Quirk's “100 Days to Offload” challenge.

I'm finally there!
